Near Final Test Render

Finally, I'm reaching the end of this. Fitting for the end of the year. This is the finished look that I'm going to be rendering out pretty soon. The different render passes were kinda thrown together just so I could fool around in PS (hence the wobbly highlights and outline around the hoody). The only thing I'm planning on doing is giving her a necklace (or 2) and maybe one more simple accessory to add some hard surface visual contrast. phone, watch, headphoness, sunglasses....I dunno yet. Then its off to pose her for final rendering. Happy (early) new year!

Hair Test

Trying out this Shave and a Haircut for the first time. Here's what I have so far. The lighting is obviously temporary. I'm finding it hard to make this more realistic so I guess i'll have to look up some more tutorials..

Skin Update

EDIT: I adjusted some settings some more. I won't touch it again until the hair is done, I promise!

I wasn't satisfied with the skin and thanks to some critiques from Q, here's what I have with the skin now. Still kinda tweaking the eyes, but this head is taking too long soo I'm moving on to the clothes.

Skin Texturing

Finally working on texturing!!(i forgot how much I love to do it!) Here's what I have with the skin so far. I learned alot about the skin shader settings doing this. There's some unevenness in the skin color that I hope to smooth out soon. The hair is just a placeholder till I start messing around with Shave and a Haircut. I'm not happy with the eyes yet so I'm still working on them. Maybe the AO pass and eyelashes will make em look better. Still gotta add eyelashes/eyebrows but next up are the clothes. Those should get done much faster....hopefully.

Almost done with the pants/shirt. Still gotta do the stitching on the shirt and fix some wrinkles on the jeans. I'm thinking about giving her a hoodie and a ton of accessories. But first I'm going to get this face going.

Zbrushed to death

Well i finally finished the zbrush work on the model. There is NO texture on here yet, i just layered a few Zbrush materials in photoshop. Lemme know what you think before i decide to texture and render in Maya.

Soldier Update

Progress is going slow on this model. (can't figure out my own concept art sometimes!) The backpack thing is going to be very detailed, so this is just the base before I start filling in all the missing pieces. (aww man i just realized the year says 2009, doh)

It Has Started...(Updated)

I got around to starting this model thankfully...Though I kinda wanted to finish the base in one day, here is what i got done so far. For the base, all I have left to do is add the eye socket geometry, inside the mouth (gums,teeth,and tongue),and finish attaching the back spikes..Maybe I'll do that tomorrow, cause i want to work on my soldier character. Either way, I'll have some sort of update tomorrow. (and yea, i put the wrong date down..i did this today not yesterday)

Here is an update on the base. Its pretty much ready to unwrap/zbrush except for the head. I'm really not happy with it because its looking too much like a fish. For some reason even if i follow my orthographic drawings, the shape doesn't look right...I might just pop it in zbrush to get the right shape.

Diamonds Once Again

Here is a much needed improvement over the last test. I figured out that the main problem was the stupid mia_material had 'visible in reflections/refractions' turned OFF by default for whatever reason. I also used a different HDRI and some other tweaks. This is pretty much done. So it's on to the next one!

Final Design

Ok, I'm done...I said i'm done. I went with the second design and did a little more detail. I might start modeling tomorrow, if i feel like it.

One! More! Time!

Alright, thanks for the critiques everyone. Here's my final 3 ideas. I combined the 2 that i liked and you guys' suggestions. I'm choosing one out of these three cause i need to get started on the modeling.

I don't think I'm going to have enough time to finish the creature challenge because of multiple things I'm working on so I'm just going to take my time with the concepts and have a nice piece before I model, maybe. Here is phase two of the concept. I like 3 and 4 so I'll probably combine them to make my final design. Hopefully by tomorrow I will have a final concept done so I can start the orthographic model sheet.

EDIT: here's some changes thanks to quinton. number 5 doesn't look high anymore, number 3 doesn't look like a frog, and i did a concept more close to the original. I'm still liking the last one. (even more so now)

Forever, ever? Forever, ever??

Suddenly, out of nowhere, DIAMONDS. Well a freelance job I'm trying to get wants some realistic diamonds and i heard that cg diamonds can be pretty tricky so i decided to do a quick render. And yes they are pretty annoying to deal with since you're working with transparent objects that pick reflections up from super random angles. It's all about the HDRI and the right things to reflect I'm noticing. This is still a WIP of course. I might post the final here if i decide to finish it.

Creature Concept

Here are some rough, quick thumbnails. So, I'm doing a creature for a little "challenge" you could say. I kinda suck at designing 'other worldly' creatures so go easy on em. The long armed one isn't apart of the decision because i didn't know humanoid characters weren't allowed. blah. i have no preference as of this moment so pick one. And yes I'm aware that #1 looks like an evil genius.

Oh yea, this again..

Thats right ladies and gentlemen its your favorite breakdancing robot (and nurse). I kinda forgot I already made all this and its just sitting in my harddrive collecting virtual dust. I still like the models (not to mention the amount of time I spent on them) so i wanna finish them. Have some nice realistic rendering with hardcore poses, yea... Sooo maybe if its on the blog I'll be motivated to finish. Umm who wants to unwrap these? :D

Ok Swayforce, this ones for you lol. I haven't had any time to work on this because of the evolve competition but heres a little update that i did today. Since the competition is pretty much wrapping up, i'll try to go full force into this. Also this is a matte painting that I did for the evolve environment with some of the pics i used. Its my first official matte painting i think. So hooray
